The work is a route to expression, exploring themes of tension, weight, volume and touch. Working directly and without sketching, the process of making sets the course of growth in surface, line and silhouette.
This is the first series of porcelain extrusions, an arrangement of 5 objects resting vertically. Each is formed by soft clay passing through a hand cut 3 x 3 cm hollow square section tool. Touch is captured within each individual gesture, through an ephemeral split of the cross section, taken at the moment of extruding. There is no applied shaping following this moment, as the expression is guided down vertically, to be set aside to dry.
Haptics, 2021, is about the memory of one movement, to be carried forward as a found object. It is a narrative on the act of making, the intention of touch, and role of distance.
